Frequently asked questions about the cremation and transfer of ashes service
Why can the price of burials vary?
The space required for a cemetery grave is not the same as for a grave for ashes. Therefore, the price of the burial can change. Other factors also have an influence, such as municipal taxes, the length of the concession of the space, the additional funeral services that are contracted (maintenance, for example) or the rates of each funeral company.
At Stelae, not only can you take out a direct cremation service, but we can also take care of other matters such as the transfer of ashes inside and outside Spain.
What documents do I need in order to request the cremation and transfer of ashes?
To request a cremation, it is necessary to have the death certificate, fill in an application form and sign the authorisation to the funeral company.
Then, if you wish to proceed with the transfer of ashes, the documentation required may vary depending on the destination:
- Within Spain, you will need the death certificate and the cremation certificate. It is also recommended to attach a national death certificate.
- Outside Spain, you will also need (in addition to the above documentation) a declaration from the funeral company about the contents of the urn if the transfer is by plane. In addition, the policies of each country and of the airlines themselves may be different, so the requirements may also be different.
How long does it take to transfer ashes after cremation?
What is the average cost of a cremation and transfer of ashes service?
Does the price of the cremation service include an urn for the ashes?
What happens if I am not at home when the ashes arrive?
Legislation stipulates that the person who contracts the direct cremation service is the person who will personally receive the urn at home. If the situation arises that you are not at home to receive the ashes, you can call us and our advisors will inform you how to proceed.
